A confirmation of what many have known for years has been given to one Cumbrian firm this month.
Tebay Services on the M6 has been revealed as top UK motorway services by Which?. The outcome was from a survey of 3,039 recent service station experiences so this result was from real people visiting Tebay Services. Tebay was the only service area to receive the maximum 5 stars.
Almost all the other services areas in the UK would be lucky to achieve 1 star never mind 5 as anyone that has visited them will know. Tebay Services is now a destination, a place to stop that may take some travellers out of their way to stop at but it is worth it.
But the M6 and especially north of Kendal and south of Penrith and the junction for the A66 is such a major road and route for those travelling to the Lake District from the north or south and to and from Scotland.
Tebay have it spot on from the service to the location to the food served and this has been confirmed by the visitors and by Which? now.
And what Tebay Services has too, set in a secluded position behind it is a hotel and as with the service area, owned and run by the Westmorland Family, not a chain hotel. The Westmorland Hotel has single, double, twin, king and family rooms so great for stopping off on holiday, as a weekend break or for business and has the same ethos as the services for the food and way it operates. As much produce as possible comes from the family’s own farm and butchery with most other produce coming from as local as possible to the hotel.
For those who aren’t aware, the Westmorland Family in May this year opened Gloucester Services on the M5. Now Tebay Services fans travelling in the south can enjoy a pleasurable service station experience opposed to a reluctant, “well I suppose we have to stop here” service station visit.
