It’s been another busy and thoroughly fantastic summer again this year in and around Windermere and Bowness. When businesses enjoyed the crowds of summer 2013, to have been blessed with another summer packed full of sunshine in 2014, well it’s been unbelievable.
Whether you work in the tourism industry in the area or not, simply drive through or are visitors, you can’t help but notice the smiles on everyone’s faces enjoying the beautiful location.
After getting hopes up of the return of the Windermere Air Show, to then be informed it unfortunately wasn’t going to go ahead was a disappointment at the time. Early in the season and the thought of businesses and the community missing out on a weekend of visitors, fun and entertainment was quite disappointing. But with events such as the power boat racing and regular regattas on Lake Windermere, the Great North Swim, events at Brockhole and the new bike boat service, Windermere has barely had any time to think about it.
And the good weather has brought not just families to Windermere and Bowness over the past 6 weeks, couples in the thousands have been visiting making the most of being able to enjoy a real summer in the UK. This can be confirmed with hotels in the area that are not child friendly or in the case of The Applegarth Villa Hotel & Restaurant in Windermere, solely for adults. All have had a busy summer with their busiest to come, September. September brings those who are wanting a quieter holiday, more couples and those who have retired.
So now to wondering, will we see hat trick of sunny summers in Windermere and the Lake District? Well the UK weather can very unpredictable but it’s safe to say everyone will most definitely have their fingers crossed!
