July 5th+6th July is all go in Grange-Over-Sands

The weekend of July 5 and 6 is where fundraising and walking/running are coming together in 2 separate events beginning or ending in the Grange-Over-Sands area.

Firstly, on Saturday 5 July the Morecambe Bay sponsored walk is taking place in aid of Action for Children. The walk starts at Kents Bank Station in Grange-Over-Sands where walkers are led by Cedric Robinson, the Queens Guide to the sands across the famous Morecambe Bay. Never should anyone be complacent with this bay and that is why it is being led by an expert but the views are breathtaking with panoramic views of the region. It is just £5 to enter and participants are then asked if they can raise money through sponsorship for Action for Children, such a worthwhile cause.

Morecambe Bay Walk

Onto the Sunday and it is the now famous CancerCare Cross Bay Challenge. Either a 7 mile walk can be embarked upon or a half marathon but both starting in Lancashire and finishing in Cumbria (albeit different starting locations). The marathon route is the quickest way to travel from Lancashire to Cumbria at low tide. Taking in some of the same spectacular scenery as the Morecambe Bay walk on Saturday, this event has been voted 4th best trail race in the UK by Runners World magazine. Silverdale is the starting point with Cark Airfield at Grange-Over-Sands being the finish line for both the walk and the run. To ability to set yourself a challenge, feel a sense of achievement on completion, enjoying truly stunning scenery whilst at the same time raising money for the local charity CancerCare, dedicated to the support of people with cancer, their families and their carers, and those bereaved by cancer, is quite something to have accomplished.

For those travelling from further afield then Grange-Over-Sands is the ideal place to stay being the location of the finish of the Cross Bay Challenge, the start of the Morecambe Bay walk and with plenty to do for those supporting the participants. It also offers a number of places to stay as well as some excellent places to eat and drink during the stay and those taking part in any of the 3 events are certainly going to be hungry! Bay Villa with large bathrooms and breakfast served to the room could be the choice most definitely for those on the half marathon but there are hotels and self catering properties too in the area.
