What better place to be on a sunny summer Sunday than Dalemain, the mansion and award winning historic gardens.
On Sunday 22nd June it is the annual Dalemain Plant Fair, much more than just a plant fair, the event also incorporates an array of artisan food and crafts as well as children’s activities.
Some of the best nurseries from the North West will be exhibiting each specialising in a particular group of plants, trees or shrubs including a stall of plants from Dalemain’s own garden and gardening advice from Newton Rigg College. For any gardening lover, novice through to experienced, the ability to talk to the nursery owners, Dalemain staff and Newton Rigg lecturers will be an invaluable opportunity to pick their brains.
Cumbrian food and drink producers are to include Bedrock Gin, Thornby Moor Cheesemakers, More! Artisan bakers and Deer n Dexter meat. With the forecast looking warm and sunny, it is advisable to take a cooler bag as it will be very hard to pass up these foodie treats on offer! Then there’s the chance to refuel with cream teas and a BBQ.
Onto crafts and there will be woodturning demonstrations by Mick & Avril Priestly along with a chance to purchase hand crafted goods, upcycled garden furniture, fixtures and fitting and Slate & Nature, slate products for the home and garden.
Children will be more than entertained with arts and crafts from Creation Station, a bouncy castle and soft play area so it really will be a great way for the families to spend the day. Entrance to the plant fair is free with on the day discounted entry to the gardens of just £5 per person and to the house & gardens £7, with children able to enjoy it all for free so it makes for an extremely reasonably priced day.
The Lakeland Cottage Company has 2 cottages available for the weekend (of a full week) just 4 miles from Dalemain, Low Longthwaite Farm and Bank Barn both sleeping 8. Click here for more details.
