For a relatively small location in the United Kingdom, Cartmel has its fair share of mentions in the press. All good of course!
Starting off with why Cartmel has been in local, Cumbrian newspapers and press. It has just been announced that Cartmel has received a gold award in the 2014 Cumbria in Bloom awards. Signs will be made for both residents and visitors to inform them of this fantastic achievement as seen in locations around the county of past winners. But what possibly isn’t going to fit on a board or sign is the full extent of the accolades awarded to Cartmel in this year’s Cumbria in Bloom. The tow people attanedning the ceremony representing Cartmel in Bloom had to go up go and collect 9 awards in total. These consisted of the two main categories, Best Small Village and Best Overall Village but also Community Champion, Tidy (Small) Village, Best Sustainable Development and Best in Borough for South Lakeland and finally a Growing for Gold award set up for marking 50 years of the Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom.
Mentioned earlier was Cartmel being in the national news but in fact, they have been in the news international for Simon Rogan’s L’enclume, the 2 Michelin star restaurant in the village, has retained its 2 star grading for a second year. Earlier this month is was announced L’enclume had also kept hold of its number 1 spot in the 2015 Waitrose Good Food Guide having first reached this ranking in 2014.
If Cartmel wasn’t a lovely and popular enough, these latest news items are surely going to make the village even busier. Visitors can choose between accommodation in B&B’s and in pubs such as The Cavendish Arms as well as luxury self catering for couples through to groups from the Lakeland Cottage Company.
